This little old blog has just moved into its sixteenth year and that feels like a genuine landmark in my life.
Fat Gay Vegan has been many things over the years. It has had highs and lows. It has won awards. It has frustrated me, delighted me, exhausted me, and kept me company. It has welcomed readers from all over the planet, most of whom I will never meet but who have taken the time to read something I wrote and perhaps felt a little less alone because of it.

When I started this blog, it was a creative outlet. I like writing. I always have. It was also a way to champion vegan products, share opinions, promote events, and carve out a space that felt honest and a bit subversive. I never imagined I would still be doing this sixteen years later. I have now been writing fatgayvegan.com for almost one third of my life.
What feels especially surprising is that 2025 brought the most readers and visitors since 2020… and was only just behind the readership figures for that year! In a world that relies so heavily on blink and you’ll miss it content on social media, it feels a bit radical that a somewhat old fashioned blog is on an upward readership trend.
There have been moments when I truly thought the end of the blog was upon me. A few years ago, I felt burnt out and unsure if I had anything left to say. I questioned the relevance of blogging in a rapidly shifting online landscape and wondered if it was time to let it go.
The feedback I receive from readers has played a huge part in being able to stick with it. Emails, comments, messages, and conversations that remind me there is value in what I do. That this space still matters to some people.
I am proud of Fat Gay Vegan. Genuinely proud. It has been a constant, a platform for activism, and a place where I have been able to be myself. Looking ahead, I now feel like I might even have another sixteen years in me!
Thank you to everyone who has ever stopped by my little patch of the Internet. I hope I have brought you some positivity along the way.
