News you can eat November 2013

There is so much juicy, tasty and succulent vegan news to get through this month that I’m going to hold the witty comments and jump straight in.

Is that OK?

Vegan red curry by Amy's Kitchen

Vegan red curry by Amy’s Kitchen

It’s great seeing so many Amy’s Kitchen products making their way to the UK. My favourite item from their vegan collection is the dairy free mac and cheese but this Thai red curry is a close second. I tried it at an Amy’s Kitchen PR day last week. You can see all of their vegan items online here.

Dark chocolate with sea salt & sunflower seeds

Dark chocolate with sea salt & sunflower seeds

I stumbled upon this little piece of delight a few weeks back in Planet Organic in Islington. Dark chocolate flavoured with sea salt with the entire underside filled with sunflower seeds. Unique and tasty! Visit the makers here.

Tasty wrap by Hoxton Beach

Tasty wrap by Hoxton Beach

I don’t know if this is new, but it’s new to me. The good people of Hoxton Beach have a tasty wrap filled with falafel and mango pickle. Like all of their products, it’s vegan and perfect for a lunch on the go. I usually buy their stuff in As Nature Intended or Planet Organic.

A vegan box delivered

A vegan box delivered

You will remember the vegan snack box I reviewed a short while back, right? Well now another vegan monthly box has been brought to my attention. The distributors of The Vegan Kind kindly sent me their box to try out. It is a more diverse mix of products than the Vegan Tuck Box and the selection changes each month. You can check it out here.

Eat this on NYE

I love hosting a party and even more so if the party involves a solid meal. Join me at central London restaurant and bar Saf on New Year’s Eve for a 3-course vegan meal and cocktail. The dining ends at 10pm allowing you time to spirit away to another location or you can stay with me in Kensington for vegan drinks in my local pub followed by free entry in a bar/nightspot that promises to rock on until 5am. Full details and ticket link here.

Caramel spread

Caramel spread

This isn’t new but the Lotus caramel biscuit spread appears to be taking over London. I’ve suddenly discovered it in my Sainsbury’s Local around the corner. Very dangerous. This stuff is vegan food crack.

Vegan burger heaven

If you missed the post about the famous Red Veg burger being back in London, it is worth checking out. Find out where this delicious handheld snack is being served after years in the wilderness.

VBites have a few new products out this month to tie in with Christmas. This 32-piece party pack was OK. I do enjoy the Cheezly bites. When you fry them in oil, the insides go all gooey! I reviewed the pepperjack bites in more detail a while back. Back in 2011 to be precise.

Too much?

Too much?

You gotta draw the line somewhere and this 48-piece party pack might be where I stop. I applaud VBites for going to the effort but I didn’t get a lot of joy out of these snacks. It was all incredibly greasy. Please let me know if you have tried and what you think of it all. It is great to see stuff like this appearing in mainstream shops, though.

FGV Santa trying to get to dinner

FGV Santa trying to get to dinner

The picture above shows Superman helping FGV Santa get inside The Gallery Cafe in time for A Very Vegan Christmas dinner celebration. He can’t be late or the guests will be very sad. You can beat him to the 3-course vegan meal by purchasing your ticket for the Friday 13th December sitting here (only one ticket remains) or for the Thursday 12th December sitting here.

My not-so-secret lovers Cookies and Scream have taken delightful eating to another level. Get in for these bite sized mounds of chocolate filled with gorgeous mousse centres. I love them and would eat them everyday if I could.

Fry it

Fry it

As you can see, I have eaten my fill of VBites products this month. I actually can’t remember eating what is in the photo above. Might be time to talk to someone about this sort of thing. Thought I would share with you anyway.

Box of cake

One of the biggest news stories on my blog last month was Ms. Cupcake selling cake via mail order. Check out the full details here.

Dark Chocolate Dreams

Dark Chocolate Dreams

I am kinda embarrassed to finish the November vegan news round up on this note, but let’s just do it. This is one of my favourite spreads as you can probably tell by the jar that has been scraped to within an inch of its life. I buy this in Whole Foods Market but I haven’t seen it anywhere else. Have you?

Is that enough food news for one month? I think I need to lie down!

  1. I love the Cheezly bites too (you don’t need to fry them in oil to make the insides gooey, just grill them as they are!). Not so keen on the meaty ones but my favourites are the sage, onion and cranberry bites… Soooo deliciously moreish!

  2. I got this US blogger award/Libster award – and I nominated you for one as well 🙂 just a fun thing, would be interesting to read your answers/see what you come up with: http://elegantlyvegan.com/i-got-a-liebster-award-for-2013-here-is-my-answers/
