To market, to market

Do you want to get involved in one of the most exciting vegan projects that has ever taken place in London?

Peter from October Cafe is developing a multi-vendor market in the heart of the city! I won’t waffle on too much as I want to give Peter the floor to explain how it works. Let’s just say it is a dream of mine to shop at an all vegan market and I will be first in line to see what the cruelty-free vendors have on offer.

Take it away, Peter:

Hi there, this is Peter from October Café on Old Street. October Café is changing and I think you might be interested in its new incarnation.

Over the coming weeks, we will be changing from a vegan tea shop to the UK’s first all-vegan market – “Mass Market”. This is a new and exciting development in an excellent location to attract the vegan market and also non-vegans from the many offices in Clerkenwell/Old Street who pass by every day and who already patronise the extremely popular Whitecross Street Market nearby.

Mass Market will be a vibrant and creative space created and influenced by the stallholders. Selling all-vegan foods from soups and sushi to chocolates and cakes and featuring music and special events, it will be a vehicle to give independent producers an opportunity to get involved in food retail and reach a wide market.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for individuals making their own foods with their own identity to trade within the market, designing their own pitch to reflect their brand.

COST

The cost of a pitch is £450 per month paid in advance and there will be no more than seven pitches. If you use your stall every day this equates to about £15 per day, which is more than competitive! There is a minimum commitment of one month and at present no daily rates. We are expecting a lot of interest and there are a limited number of pitches so please get in touch as soon as possible if you are interested.

WHAT YOU GET

A pitch in the indoor market approximately 5 x 3 foot, a tabletop stall, inclusion on the website, marketing and promotion, public liability cover, all rent and rates included, private refuse collection, secure storage in basement wall space of pitch to personalise your stall. You will need to bring your own food ready-prepared and napkins, cutlery etc.

HOURS

The market will be open Monday to Friday from 11am to 6pm and weekends from noon to 6pm.

To secure your place please email info@octobercafe.co.uk

Thanks,

Peter

  1. i think this is wonderful news! i have never been to an all vegan market—-i can’t wait!

as they say though, every silver lining has a cloud, and i’m quite sad i’ll never get a chance to have tea at october cafe!

    • I’ll hit it up for you before it closes… and send you the pics! xx

      • i shall be there in spirit.

  2. […] back to inspiral lounge 0 July 12th, 2011quarrygirllondon, more restaurants (not LA) in honor of fat gay vegan’s announcement about a soon-to-be entirely vegan multi-vendor marketplace in lon…, today we’ve decided to feature one of our favorite restaurants in the city: inspiral […]

  3. Sounds awesome, any idea when it’s changing other than ‘over the coming weeks’. I’ve just read your review of the cafe and I need to get there before it changes!!

    • No idea when it is happening. I suppose when he starts getting interested traders he can start. Get in there for some tea quickly before it changes. It is so much fun.

  4. I was in London last month for about a week. Not only was October Cafe serving delicious food, but Peter was the most helpful person I met in London. He gave me the lowdown on vegan places that I never would have found googling, including an Italian restaurant not far from the Cafe that had some of the best vegan food I have had outside of New York. I wish Peter the best of luck and success, and look forward to shopping at the ‘Mass Market’ next time I am in London. Fantastic news!

    • He is a lovely chap.

    • I just heard about October Cafe (which I will be visiting tomorrow) and now you drop another goodnews bomb about a local Italian restaurant ! Do you happen to know what it was called? No worries if not! Thanks

  5. I’m increasingly interested and confirmed my availability, sounds awesome *_*

  6. £450 per month sounds very, very expensive to me. That’s an awful lot of food to have to sell to break even, then there’s your other overheads such as ingredients, energy to cook the food and wages. Phew!
