FGV on the radio

Here is a quick post to alert you to the fact that I was recently a guest on BBC Radio Scotland.

I was approached by a production assistant last week and asked if I would like to participate in an on air discussion about how people view vegans in 2018.

Click here to listen back online.

You will need to scroll to the 1:32:00 mark of the recording.

Yay for vegan representations in the media!

Vegan on the radio

In case you missed it, you can listen back to The Food Programme on BBC Radio 4 right here online.

The show description is as follows:

The number of young people turning vegan is rising. Grace Dent meets some of the people opening vegan eateries and finds out how creatives are using social media to further the “vegangelical” cause.

Grace goes to the Hackney Downs Vegan Market to speak to Jay Brave who argues that adopting a vegan diet is as much about personal autonomy and challenging the status quo as it is an ethical step. He delivers a few bars of ‘Vegan Shut Up’, his parody of Stormzy’s ‘Shut Up’ released on World Vegan Day, and tells Grace why veganism is becoming big in the London grime scene. She also speaks to Sean O’Callaghan AKA Fat Gay Vegan who set-up the market and has seen its popularity grow, and gives his reaction to the mainstream restaurants who are falling over themselves to come up with vegan menus.

Ian Theasby and Henry Firth from Bosh! create simple and imaginative vegan recipes which are filmed and broadcast to over 1.4m Facebook users. Toby Field visits them at their studio to find out what fuels their idea to create plant-based options and to ask why they keep out of the argument around the ethics of veganism.

Maria Rose has just opened a vegan cafe in Barnstaple and explains how it’s slowly creating a more enlightened scene in North Devon.

So is this just a trend that’s fine for the hipster herbivores of Camden, or can it gain traction across the country and start a food revolution?

The episode will probably only be online for a limited time, so apologies if you follow that link and it’s no longer there.

FGV on the radio

I was invited to be a guest on a radio show last week and now I’m sharing the online version with you in case you want to listen. You wanna hear me speak, right?!

My friend Tatum hosts a weekly show on Wandsworth Radio in London called The Social Hour with Tatum and she invited me along to discuss a whole big bunch of topics including my beer events, growing up in Australia, being an activist, and my debut book being released next year.

If the embedded player doesn’t work for you below, you can listen online here.

The show runs for an hour but it isn’t just me talking. I also got to pick a few tracks to play so it really is an enjoyable listen.

You can like The Social Hour on Facebook and follow Tatum on Instagram.

FGV on the radio

Super quick post to let you know that I am being interviewed tonight (Thursday July 13, 2017) on local radio here in London.

My friend Tatum hosts a show called The Social Hour and I have been invited to be a guest.

You can listen live online via the Wandsworth Radio website between 9pm and 10pm tonight (UK time), or follow up and listen at a later date via the Social Hour Facebook page.

I think I’ll be talking about London Vegan Beer Fest amongst a few other things. I might even get to play a few songs!

You should also follow Tatum on Instagram for gorgeous vegan food photos.

Plant-Based Minute

I am excited to announce a new and hopefully ongoing collaboration.

I was recently approached by Barts Radio, a charity producing broadcast content for the in-house radio station at Barts Hospital in London, and was asked if I would volunteer with weekly content.

The radio works to deliver entertainment to inpatients, although anyone can stream the station online via their website.

After having a think about what I could bring to the show and how valuable the radio station charity is to a lot of patients, I jumped at the chance to volunteer.

My segment is set to be super quick each week, clocking in at exactly 60 seconds. You can listen to A Plant-Minute with FGV at around 5pm today (Saturday October 8, 2016) here online and hopefully most weeks on Barts Radio. Today I advise on how to start giving up dairy when it comes to ice cream (my expert field!). My segments are designed to be an accessible guide filled with simple advice for people looking to explore veganism.

I will also look at hosting my bite-sized segments online myself in order to share with a wider listening audience. Stay tuned for that.

If you tune in today, I would love to hear what you think of my segment!
