Latest issue of T.O.F.U. Magazine out now

Continuing to showcase personal stories and long-form interviews around topics of oppression and activism, T.O.F.U. Magazine is proud to announce the release of its latest issue, which focuses on capitalism and veganism.

From whether or not voting with our dollar and working within the system is creating change to dreaming of ways to build something different, T.O.F.U. #15 shares the thoughts and experiences of vegan business owners (e.g., Herbivore Clothing, Food Fight!, and Scapegoat Tattoo), activists (e.g., lauren Ornelas of Food Empowerment Project), and more to try and make some sense of the tangled web we weave when money gets involved.

“When you’re looking at the intersections between capitalism and veganism, there are no easy answers,” admits Ryan Patey, T.O.F.U.’s Editor and Co-Founder. “However, as veganism gains in popularity in many parts of the world, and large companies continue to seek profit without a real interest in our ethics, it’s a subject we’re going to have to tackle more and more.”

Thanks to the contributions of vegans involved directly with the capitalist system through operating vegan businesses and those trying to live outside of it as much as possible, T.O.F.U. #15 hopes to help encourage these tough conversations, both within the community and ourselves.

As always, the new issue is available through a pay-what-you-can system (because increasing access instead of profits is important!) along with all the other past issues.

New issue of T.O.F.U magazine

My buddy Ryan publishes an informative and educational magazine called T.O.F.U. and the new issue is out now.

After covering physical and mental health issues in the previous two releases, T.O.F.U. Magazine’s latest (T.O.F.U. #13) focuses on veganism and disordered eating. With articles on struggles with bulimia, anorexia, orthorexia, and other eating disorders (EDs), as well as pieces about recovery and an interview with Muffy J. Davis, the issue seeks to further conversations both for those with EDs and the community in general.

Veganism and mental health

Here is some news from my buddy, Ryan Patey, about the new issue of his incredible magazine T.O.F.U.:

Following the path set by T.O.F.U. #11, which focused on veganism, chronic illness, and failing health, the twelfth issue of T.O.F.U. tackles the topic of veganism and mental health. From discussions of anxiety, depression, and addiction to an interview with Emily von Euw of This Rawsome Vegan Life that covers such things as gender, the stigma around mental health, and more, the issue continues to highlight the stories of those who know that veganism doesn’t cure everything.

Even before its release, people were excited for the magazine to be focusing on such a crucial topic, which is too often overlooked or simplified by the vegan and animal rights community in its messages and actions. Now, just days after it was made public, the issue seems to be striking a chord with people around the world.

“This issue, coupled with the last one, was created to support those who feel alienated by a community they very much deserve to be a part of,” explains T.O.F.U.’s Editor, Ryan Patey. “Whether it’s through (wrongly) dismissing people’s issues as the result of too much processed food or having events and social activities refuse to acknowledge the needs of those with such things as anxiety or PTSD, the fact is that a movement fighting to end the oppression of animals is oppressing others in turn and it needs to stop.”

Luckily, thanks to the willingness of over a dozen vegans to share their personal stories, the latest issue of T.O.F.U. will hopefully play its part in changing not only the conversation within the community, but also the attitudes.
