Free sound and mixing opportunities

This is VERY cool.

Steve of Friendship Vegan Shoes wanted me to share some amazing information with London’s vegan community.

I’ll let him explain it in his own words.

I don’t know if you know but before Caroline and I set up Friendship Vegan Shoes, I had 41 years in the Music industry as a recording engineer and some of that time was spent directing and producing TV shows.

I retired and went into vegan shoes but we recently set up a world class surround mix studio as we get invited to mix for film and TV commercially.

Now we get empty days in the surround studio so Caroline and I want to give these studio days away free of charge (and include an engineer where and when needed) to film and programme makers we would align with such as vegan animal rights and environmental action groups.

Here is a link to the studio page and the photo (below) shows the Fairlight EVO system control desk.

The studio can mix content from Mono to 7:1 surround and is acoustically treated and very comfortable to work in, and without fear of repetition we offer it free of charge to film and programme makers when we agree with their mission.

I’d be really grateful if you can share this message. My experience is when budget gets tight the first thing that suffers is audio post production, but nowadays audio is half the picture!

Follow Friendship Vegan Shoes on Instagram and reach out to Steve and Caroline if you are in need of sound mixing for your ethical project!

Top picks from Hackney Downs today

If you weren’t able to get along to Hackney Downs Vegan Market today, I’ve put together a small post showing some of my top picks.

Remember, this market takes place EVERY Saturday (unless otherwise advertised) and you can get freshly made food from some of the finest vegan street food traders in London.

OK. Here are my picks.

Get into this fab vegan pop up

Biff’s Jack Shack is a totally fab food company. Remember when I mentioned their burgers, wings and fries at the Camden Town Brewery residency they did?

Now they have a new kitchen residency at Haunt, an all-vegan bar and venue in the Stoke Newington area.

This residency is the first time they have been able to put together a full evening menu and they told me they are super excited by all of the new dishes they’ve been able to launch as a result.

And as well as their evening menu, they’re also going to be offering a ‘vegan AF’ brunch at the weekends, and a Sunday roast burger.

You need to follow Biff’s on Instagram to keep updated with all of their glorious food creations and also keep scrolling to see some of these beautiful food photos highlighting their Haunt menu (pics by Kim Burrows).

Eat ALL of this amazing food. Brownies with ice cream. Cheesecake. Poutine! Salads. Wings. Burgers.

Click here to see the location of Haunt thanks to Google Maps.

Sold out vegan events

What does a sold out vegan pop up event look like?

Just like this.

This was the scene last night as we hosted the sold out 5pm sitting of the Mexico City Feast Night at Black Cat Hackney with special guest Mariana Blanco of Los Loosers.

Mariana fed the delighted guests some of the best vegan Mexican food London has ever seen.

And you know what? We had so much fun, we did it twice.

The 8pm sitting was another sold out event.

These sold out dinners were in addition to the Day of the Dead event hosted at 10 Cable Street and the Mexican Ramen Night taking place at Vegan HQ tomorrow.

Much love to everyone who has joined us for these special events.

Be sure to follow Los Loosers on Instagram to see what all the fuss is about and get to Mexico City if and when you can to eat with the much-loved foodies.

New vegan café alert

I will give you one guess where a new vegan cafe has opened in London.

I would bet any amount of money that you said Hackney?!

Rehab is brand new plant-based eatery situated on Well Street, just a few minutes walk from Temple of Seitan in Hackney Central.

I asked the owners for a little insight into what makes the cafe tick and they told me:

Our cafe concentrates on healing, organic, vegan food that is abundant with nutrients while being filling and affordable. We also have a bar which we plan to open soon serving vegan cocktails, beer and wine. There is also the option for healthy mixed cocktails using kombucha and cold pressed juices.

Take a look at some of the photos below and follow Rehab on Instagram.

Growing up in New Zealand, her heart has always lain in what comes from the earth.  It was here she was taught about the seasons, about how things grow, and about the ecosystem of the garden, from a very tender age.

Queer vegan music

If you sniff around these parts of the Internet often, you will know that I adore a band from West London known as Colour Me Wednesday.

Colour Me Wednesday is a super awesome feminist queer DIY music situation with the catchiest songs this side of the Hangar Lane gyratory.

As an added bonus, the band members are vegan. I just can’t get enough of them.

If you are keen to experience one of my favourite bands, you should grab a ticket for this very special preview show taking place in South London.

To celebrate the new album set to be released soon, Colour Me Wednesday is playing a one-night-only show at DIY SPACE for London on Sunday November 19, 2017.

You can buy your tickets online here.

You can follow Colour Me Wednesday on Instagram.

Yay for music!
