I do that thing where I walk 10,000 steps a day.
I know it is not scientifically sound and it’s not a magic number, but I feel good about it for a few reasons. It’s good for my mental health (and I need all the help I can get in that department!) plus I get to discover London every time I step outside.
These little walking adventures can uncover quirky surprises, such as today’s finding of vegan soup inside a North London arthouse cinema!

ArtHouse is an independent creative community space that is primarily home to a cinema specialising in documentaries, arthouse films, and even live theatre screenings.
Situated on Tottenham Lane in Crouch End, the building which used to be the Salvation Army Hall, it also plays host to theatre productions, discussions, and comedy. Basically whatever there is a demand for in the local community!
As I was sauntering past today I noticed a small “Vg” sticker in the window which as featured small print that read “vegan and vegetarian cafe”. That’s all it took to get me in there.
I quickly discovered that the ArtHouse café is a meat-free establishment. Of course that doesn’t mean all plant-based, but all of the vegan options are clearly labelled. I was a bit late in the day meaning all the sandwiches had disappeared, but there was still piping hot soup with fresh bread available.
The soup was rustic but exactly what I needed. London weather today was drizzly and a bit chilly, so the veggies, beans, and hot broth sorted me out perfectly.
I’m keen on heading back to check out a film screening soon, as well as trying my luck with picking up a vegan sandwich. If you are into drinking, ArtHouse also boasts a full bar.
