Too Good To Go is an app through which businesses sell food and groceries that is close to or on its best before date.
The app helps business make a little bit more revenue on food that would otherwise be trashed if left unsold, gives consumers a chance to save a few quid, and works to direct food away from being wasted or tossed in landfill.
The app allows you to search by map and by keywords. Today I located a small grocery store near Kings Cross that was offering a £5 mystery bag that was labelled as vegan with a retail value of more than £15.
Wanna see what I got?

Overall, I was pretty pleased with my mystery bag. It definitely would have cost me more than £15 if I had purchased everything at full price, so paying £5 felt like a bargain.
The bag was mostly packed with fruit and vegetables, which I am certainly not complaining about. This was great value and I’ve already put a lot of it to use since getting home a few hours ago.
My bag included:
- Holy Moly guacamole
- mushrooms
- radishes
- vegan muffin
- vegan croissant
- one orange
- two bags of seedless grapes
- red chillies
- two cucumbers
- two bags of fresh dill
- kale
- mini cabbage
- one plum
- a yellow pepper and a green pepper
- a few carrots
- one tomato
- one fig
- two limes
Not a downside, but you have to be prepared to consume everything with a day or two of getting one of these mystery bags as most of the produce included is close to the end of its life. Still perfectly OK, but not for much longer.
This experience today with Too Good To Go left me feeling quite pleased with myself. I saved money, I stopped food from going into landfill or being incinerated, I was inspired to cook a delicious and nutritious dinner with the produce I got, and I went for a decent walk to collect my mystery bag!
So much winning.
