If you have ever had to explain to a family member why you won’t visit a zoo on the weekend, or found yourself at a dinner table politely declining honey cake for the seventeenth time, this new book is for you.
Jordi Casamitjana’s new release Why Vegans Don’t: A Philosophical Guide to Vegan Behaviour takes all those everyday vegan choices and lines them up in a way that makes perfect sense. Not in a dry lecture kind of way but in a way that lifts the curtain on the bigger philosophy happening behind the scenes.

This book grew out of Jordi’s popular Why Vegans Don’t blog series for Vegan FTA. He spent more than three years turning questions like why not wool or why not oysters into clear and thoughtful conversations. Each chapter works on its own if you want to dip in and out, but when you read them together you start to see the full shape of veganism as Jordi understands it. It becomes obvious that veganism is not just about swapping cow’s milk for oat milk. It is a full social movement built on empathy, justice, and respect for every sentient being trying to make a life in this strange world.
One of the things you’ll enjoy about Jordi’s writing is how he mixes solid research with compassion. He is not afraid to get into the sticky debates that vegans like to tussle over. Backyard eggs. Ahimsa silk. Horse riding. Jordi treats them with honesty and care, never losing sight of the goal which is rejecting exploitation in all its forms so we can say yes to life in all its forms.
If you are vegan already, this book will feel like someone finally put your values into words. If you are vegan curious, prepare to have your understanding stretched in the best possible way. And if you love a vegan but don’t quite get why they live the way they do, this book will offer you insight.
Jordi himself is an incredibly interesting human. Originally from Catalonia and now a long time UK resident, he has spent decades standing up for animals in just about every way possible. He has worked in scientific research, uncovered cruelty through undercover investigations, and helped push forward major legal and political changes. He even played a key part in securing legal protection against discrimination for ethical vegans in Great Britain, a landmark case that went global. When Jordi writes about the philosophy behind vegan choices, it comes from a place of lived experience and genuine dedication.
Why Vegans Don’t is more than a guidebook. It is a compassionate invitation to think deeply about the world we are creating and the world we want to live in. Jordi reminds us that saying no to harm is really about saying yes to a kinder existence for all of us.
If you are looking for your next meaningful read, make it this one. It will give you language for your values, fresh perspectives to mull over, and a renewed sense of why veganism matters now more than ever.
