How about The Coven of Wiches, a completely plant-based deli and bar tucked inside (the bones of) an old Edwardian cinema in Walthamstow’s Wood Street Market?
Let’s just say… this isn’t your average vegan sandwich shop.
Read more below.

Summoned into existence by the culinary magic of Annabelle Clarke, whose CV boasts time spent at some of London’s most iconic vegan kitchens, The Coven of Wiches is a full-throttle celebration of vegan sandwiches, feminist reclamation, and good old-fashioned deliciousness.

Annabelle wasn’t interested in lacklustre vegan options many of us have learned to suffer through. She’s gone full flavour wizard, bringing classic combos and original creations to the forefront. The Reuben is their ride-or-die staple, always on hand like a trusty familiar. But if you’re after something a bit more experimental, the likes of THE BREEP or THE STEVIL are ready to cast their own spell on your lunch break.
You’ll have to pop by regularly to keep up with the ever-changing menu, which rotates fortnightly.
This place has got it all going on. Frozen margaritas when the weather hits the high numbers. Kimchi shots at the bar. Their own exclusive hot sauce range. A loyalty card system that rewards your devotion with a free sandwich (my favourite kind of magic). And if you’re one of those lovely people who adopts vinyl like it’s an endangered species, you can spin your newest find on their in-house turntable while you wait.

The Coven is a female-owned, queer-friendly, dog-loving, small-space-with-big-energy kind of spot. Wheelchair users can get inside, there’s a cosy little garden space out back, and they even sell merch.
If you’re anywhere near East London, or even if you’re not, make a pilgrimage to this temple of sandwich worship. The Coven of Wiches is proof that passion and plants is a magic combination.
Now, go get bewitched.
