We are definitely seeing more and more vegan businesses popping up, even if I do write the occasional moaning post abut all the places we have lost.
The trend is definitely more plant-based, more often, and in more places.
And while vegan restaurants are appearing all over the UK, there is one (roughly) square mile of London that appears to be the actual vegan capital of the country.
Read more below.

The small part of central London encompassing Liverpool Street, Spitalfields, and a little bit of Shoreditch is absolutely swimming in plant-based eateries.
Let me break it down for you.
Near Liverpool Street station:
- Club Mexicana is vegan Mexican-inspired food with a location the the BOXHALL food court next door to the station
- Club Mexicana has another kitchen inside Queen of Hoxton bar and nightclub just a block and half behind the station
- A few doors along from Queen of Hoxton is Mukbap, the 100% vegan Korean restaurant that is a smash hit with locals
Inside Spitalfields Market:
- Merkamo Ethiopian is all vegan cuisine and open every single day of the week inside Spitalfields Market
- Three actual steps away from the Merkamo stall is The Polka Dot Bakery stall. It is 100% vegan and gluten free and open only on Saturday and Sunday
- Soon to open in the market is another location if the Holy Carrot restaurant group
Brick Lane:
- Merkamo Ethiopian has a permanent, sit-down restaurant on Hanbury Street just off Brick Lane
- Vegan Yes is Italian and Korean fusion!
- Legendary vegan kebab shop What The Pitta! is also trading on Brick Lane
Just off Commercial Street
- Okja is a 100% vegan bakery with the finest pastries in the capital
- Dauns Scandi deli and cafe is the brunch hot spot of your dreams and is on Wentworth Street
- Directly opposite Dauns is Unity Diner with a comfort food menu that will make it tough for you to decide
- Tofu Vegan has one of their multiple restaurant locations on Commercial Street
Wow. That is 13 vegan food outlets in this tiny section of London.
Have I missed any? I know there are even more just outside this region of the map, but have I left any out of my list based on the map selection? Let me know in the comments!
Also, can you name another neighbourhood of any city anywhere in the world with as many vegan restaurants in such a small area? Is this the most densely-packed vegan restaurant district in the world?
