Massive news for plant-based dining. Plates in London has been awarded a Michelin star!
Seeing a fully-vegan restaurant achieve this accolade shows just how far plant-based cuisine has come, and I could not be more thrilled.
If you are thinking you need to book a table immediately, you are not alone.
Plates is already one of the most in-demand restaurants in London, and this Michelin win has made securing a table even more of a challenge.
But do not let that stop you. Visit their website, check out the menu, and get yourself on the waiting list. You never know when a spot might open up.
My friend Nick managed to get in recently and I listened to him rave for what felt like an entire hour about how it was the best meal of his life. Sounds like paradise to my foodie ears (and belly).
Huge congratulations to chef Kirk Haworth and co-founder Keeley Haworth for the years of hard work they have put into making Plates the powerhouse it is today.
This is a moment to celebrate.
Extra note: The Michelin star system has been around for nearly 100 years, and believe it or not, it all started with a tyre company trying to get people to drive more. Back in 1926, Michelin decided to hand out stars to restaurants worth making a trip for, and by 1933, they introduced the one, two, and three-star ranking we know today. Fast forward to now, and a Michelin star is one of the biggest honours a restaurant can receive. It is a symbol of top-tier food, creativity, and consistency, and it can catapult a restaurant to global fame. Getting a star is a game-changer, but keeping one is just as intense, which is why chefs and food lovers alike take them so seriously.
