Review: Green Eggs Cafe in Philadelphia

On my last day in Philly, my brother and I wanted a hearty breakfast before he dropped me off at the airport. Thanks (once again) to the HappyCow app, I discovered that just around the corner from his place is an establishment called Green Eggs Cafe and despite the name, they have decent vegan options.

GreenEggs - 2The place was buzzing even at 11am on a weekday morning. The coffee smelled good and the service was friendly. I had a hard time choosing between the two main vegan options on the menu: the vegan scramble or the vegan French toast. In the end my savoury tastebuds won out and I ordered the vegan scramble.

When the dish arrived it was piled high with scrambled tofu and a mixture of potatoes, onions and red & green peppers. On the side were two house-made vegan sausage patties and two slices of toast. Everything was tasty and cooked to perfection. The tofu was firm but not too chewy and the seasoning was just-right. I polished my food off in no time although I have to admit I was struggling towards the end as there was just so much there.

I would definitely head back to Green Eggs Cafe and as good as the scramble was, I would be very tempted to try the French toast.
