South of the river treats

I have often heard about The Waiting Room in the south London enclave of Deptford, but really wasn’t sure where Deptford was situated. It sounded like one of those places you would never visit due to it being in the middle of nowhere.

I don’t know why I thought that, I just did.

This week led to somewhat of a revelation as I discovered there is a train departing every 10 minutes from London Bridge station that takes an incredibly short time to deliver its passengers to Deptford, just one station away.

The Waiting Room is a vegetarian coffee shop offering vegan alternatives for almost their entire menu. It would be marvellous to see this rad store front make the switch to completely vegan, but until they do vegans still have a lot of food and drink to keep them busy.

Check out what I got my paws on during my visit this week.

Peanut butter & Oreo milkshake

BBQ seitan hot wings

Sticky vegan ribs with coleslaw

Choc chip blondie with vanilla ice cream & chocolate sauce

Not a bad offering!

I’m keen to get back over there for one of their hot dogs and their killer cocktail menu.

Have you eaten at The Waiting Room? What did you think?

Like The Waiting Room on Facebook or follow them on Twitter and Instagram.

  1. I’ve always been wary of visiting Deptford after the strapline from the movie Jubilee…’See The Slits wreck Deptford’. And it looked pretty grim in the film. But that was 1978 so maybe it’s time to go a vegan venture down that way.

  2. Hey, the waiting room is fab, one of my regular local haunts, best falafel wrap around with vegan mayo and hot chilli sauce, but we’re well catered for here in deptford, there’s the vinyl shop just down the road which I’ve heard has recently turned completely vegan there’s the amber tree cafe also on the high street which caters well for vegans and also the birds nest pub who do a fab vegan roast dinner
