Upper class
One of the most popular categories on the blog is Food in the air. This is the tag I use to showcase meals served to me or readers during flying experiences.
Today’s post slips into this category, but with a special twist. This is the first Food in the air story sent to me in real time from a flight still taking place and the first time I have shared details of a meal not in economy class.
Check it out!
My buddy Quarrygirl sent me a text message today to inform me she had been upgraded to Virgin Upperclass and wanted to share a photo of her meal… from the flight!
Here’s the photo:
Here’s what Quarrygirl had to say about her food in the sky experience:
I got upgraded to Virgin Upper Class and they have so much vegan shit. They know which wines are vegan, which breads are vegan and serve an epic vegan curry.
The flight attendants are super nice and used to the word vegan. They only offered me certain wines and beers. They even warned me about honey!
Sounds like the way to travel if you can manage it. Massive thanks to Quarrygirl for reporting back mid-flight and all the best with LA Vegan Beer & Food Festival preparations.

Virgin forgot our econo class vegan meal, SFO to London, so they had their chef make us beautiful first class vegan meals. Very impressed and many thanks to RB
My experience on KLM, Air Egypt and Turkish Air recently looked absolutely nothing like this! Air Egypt I ate bread and fruit, the other two offered a vegan meal, but very simple sandwich style and plenty of fruits. No complaints really, but not the same quality as the other non vegan meals I saw my neighbours tucking into. I always travel with a banana handy!
