Cheese and cheese

Following years in the vegan cheese wilderness with little more than Cheezly to keep us alive, vegans in the UK are absolutely swimming in the stuff. A new dairy-free cheese seems to pop up every month. I don’t know where it is all coming from. I like to think of it as a cruelty-free cheese revolution.

Two brands that are new to me (but I’m already familiar with due to greed) are both found in the legendary London vegan boutique and grocery haven known as Vx.

Violife is a development in cheese a long time coming: tasty, affordable and by the slice. The packs of cheese slices are available in a variety of flavours and the product is one of the best melting vegan cheeses on the market. See their entire range of vegan cheeses online.

If you are fussy about where your cheese comes from, you should note the Violife range is owned and made by a Greek company called Viotros (part of the giant ELGEKA Group). Viotros is one of the largest food companies in Greece and produce a wide variety of dairy cheeses as well. If you are looking for a delicious vegan cheese, you have found it. If you are looking for a product made by a vegan company without ties to the dairy industry, try looking elsewhere.

The other new cheese line isn’t exactly new, but rather an old friend with a new outfit. Jeezo is the rebranded Vegourmet. These blocks are extremely popular with a lot of vegans I know and the company has a HUGE range of plant-based products. Check out their cheeses, meats and even pet food in their online shop.

That’s all the cheese news I have for now. Please comment below if you know of any new brands or flavours and of course get into Vx to try these brands. I would love to know your opinion.

  2. The best vegan cheese I have tried to date is Vegusto – none of the dryness that many vegan cheeses seem to suffer from.

  3. you need to seriously campaign for this in london. http://botanicalcuisine.com/cheese/

  4. Not tried this yet but this is very new – maybe you could get a sample to review?

  5. I am so grateful for this post. Through your blog /tweets I now know and love Vegusto, and also Violife which I was so happy to find newly stocked in my local Health shop. I had been tottering along on almost veganism for over a year. Now I have made the leap and feel wholly better. Massive thanks!

  6. I might be crazy but I think the Violife blocks are nice than the Violife slices? There is nothing better than a grated Violife sandwich cooked in a panini press. Also, just found your blog and I love you.

  7. I love the Jeezo cheeses, especially the Swiss flavoured one 🙂
