Review: Green Eggs Cafe in Philadelphia
On my last day in Philly, my brother and I wanted a hearty breakfast before he dropped me off at the airport. Thanks (once again) to the HappyCow app, I discovered that just around the corner from his place is an establishment called Green Eggs Cafe and despite the name, they have decent vegan options.
The place was buzzing even at 11am on a weekday morning. The coffee smelled good and the service was friendly. I had a hard time choosing between the two main vegan options on the menu: the vegan scramble or the vegan French toast. In the end my savoury tastebuds won out and I ordered the vegan scramble.
When the dish arrived it was piled high with scrambled tofu and a mixture of potatoes, onions and red & green peppers. On the side were two house-made vegan sausage patties and two slices of toast. Everything was tasty and cooked to perfection. The tofu was firm but not too chewy and the seasoning was just-right. I polished my food off in no time although I have to admit I was struggling towards the end as there was just so much there.
I would definitely head back to Green Eggs Cafe and as good as the scramble was, I would be very tempted to try the French toast.
