Best in Leeds

If you need proof that the UK is now a serious vegan food contender on the world stage, get along to Leeds and eat with El Marchador Tacos.

It will be one of the best eating experiences you will have.

El Marchador is a fully vegan and gluten free eatery in the heart of Leeds. The menu is packed solid with absolutely mouthwatering Mexican cuisine and the tacos are the finest I’ve tasted outside of Mexico.

In addition to the incredible food line up, the venue also hosts an impressive line up of tequilas and craft beers. Of course the bar is entirely vegan, too.

Follow El Marchador on Instagram and see the exact location of the cantina thanks to Google Maps.

Film festival with vegan menu

Is this a UK first?

The Leeds Queer Film Festival is set to run in the Northern city between March 24 and 26, 2017 at Live Art Bistro and big news for readers of this blog is the food being sold during the three day event.

Every morsel of food sold during Leeds Queer Film Festival 2017 is set to be vegan.

Great news!

Of course the main attraction is the incredible line up of shorts and feature films, including a screening of the phenomenal Academy Award-winning Moonlight, however it is wonderful to see organisers taking a fully inclusive approach to the catering.

The film festival states the following about the vegan food menu:

It’s not just an amazing programme of films this weekend, we’ve also got loads of scrummy food available.

There’s a whole heap of snacks available ALL WEEKEND including samosas, sausage rolls, pizza rolls, cakes, popcorn, sweets and pick & mix.

On SATURDAY we’re gonna be serving up hot meals including Three Bean Chili and Smoked Tofu Stew. On SUNDAY to help you recover from our Queer Dance Party the night before there’s gonna be a brunch with Sausage Buns then later on some delish Homemade Soup.

And, it’s all VEGAN

Live Art Bistro also has a bar serving alcohol, soft drinks, tea and coffee.

It’s all CASH ONLY so bring your pennies. The nearest cash point is the Shell garage just 150 yards from the venue along Regent Street.

Make a big effort to support this incredible event if you are in Leeds and have the means to do so.

Fried chicken in Leeds

The news of Temple of Seitan opening a vegan fried chicken shop in London broke the plant-based Internet this week, but another piece of faux-fowl news has bubbled to the surface a bit further north.

Last night in Leeds I visited the co-operatively run Wharf Chambers to sample the delicacies of Vegan Fried Chicken by Simon.

This super cool pop up happens most weeks on Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 7pm and 11pm. Simon serves from the bar, so you can grab a vegan beer and a bucket of vegan chicken at the same time.

Here is the rad menu from last night.

How awesome does that all sound?!

I ate almost one of everything during my visit and of course I’m thinking of going back today for more.

You need to follow Simon on Facebook and Twitter for menu and dates for this wonderful vegan fried chicken pop up kitchen.
