Vegan snacks on a train

Riding intercity trains in the UK can be an ordeal.

The tickets are outrageously expensive and being on time is a wish, not a reality most of the time.

But today I got a pleasant surprise on my train journey from London to Leeds. There were vegan snacks available!

Read more below.

I had a few hours to fill on the LNER train to Leeds so l decided to visit the cafe which was conveniently located in my carriage. I might not have bothered if I had to walk further!

I’m not here to convince you it was a vegan wonderland, but there was definitely more than I expected.

Obviously there were crisps, but the salted caramel cookie by Doughlicious The London Dough Co was a real winner. They also had the giant Jammie Dodger!

The cafe was also serving vegan savory food including an instant rice pot and some sort of plant-based pasty. I was impressed by the Holy Moly guacamole snack pot being labeled vegan and mini tubs sachets of oat milk available when ordering hot drinks.

I know that this might sound a tad underwhelming, however compared with my recent train journey from Manchester during which I saw a lone mummified vegan sausage roll this was a revelation.
