Ice Shack in Manchester used to have an ice cream flavour named after me many years ago (true story), so it was wonderful to see this 100% vegan sweet spot still in operation in 2025.

The ownership of Ice Shack in Withington, Manchester has changed hands since the days of the FGV ice cream flavour, but it is still serving up tasty-looking cakes, simple savoury snacks, and a big range of frozen desserts.
Withington might seem like it’s a long way from the centre of the city, but I made the journey on a local bus during my recent weekend in Manchester.
The cafe itself is a little rough around the edges but I thoroughly enjoyed all of the food served to me.
The shakes are a highlight because not only do you get asked to pick your preference of plant milk, you are also permitted to choose any flavour from the huge ice cream display case. I opted for the mint choc chip and was delighted!
The cake case was full of decadent frosted creations while the savoury food was simple yet highly effective. The vegan fish finger sandwich and the pastrami bagel both impressed.
If you are in Manchester permanently or even if you are visiting, I recommend Ice Shack for a no-frills eating experience with an absolutely killer ice cream line up.
