Music Made By (Some) Vegans

Here is a cute story for your weekend.

Earlier today, I posted a Story on Instagram encouraging my followers to check out the new album by a band called Fortitude Valley.

Well, fast forward a few hours and I got a sweet message from the band!

Read more below.

I can’t recall how I found out about Fortitude Valley.

Algorithms are funny business. The band might have been suggested to me because I love good music and they make spectacularly-good music. It might be because I am from Brisbane and so is front person Laura (now residing in the UK, as am I!). Fortitude Valley is also the name of a suburb in Brisbane, well known for alternative music, LGBTQ+ venues, and historically being a red light district. I made a nuisance of myself in Fortitude Valley as a teenager.

So however it happened, I’m just delighted it happened. Fortitude Valley the band is now part of my life.

Part of The Problem, Baby is a sensational collection of alternative power pop from this indie group. The songs are bursting with catchy melodies and deliciously-fuzzy guitars.

The band’s website states:

Fortitude Valley is the brainchild of Durham-based Australian Laura Kovic. Taking influence from the likes of The Beths, The Go-Go’s and Pavement, what results is a ludicrously addictive cocktail of heart-stopping indie-punk power-pop melody and a back catalogue of songs that’ll be living in your head, rent free, for evermore.

After a few spins of the recently-released album, I posted the aforementioned Instagram Story with a link to the band’s Spotify profile. Imagine my surprise when I got a message back from the band thanking me for my post AND letting me know that three of the band are vegan (and are fans of FGV).

They like what I do. I love their new album. It’s a match made in heaven. The irony that I had to travel thousands of kilometres away from Brisbane to fall in love with Fortitude Valley!
