The popularity and visibility of veganism in 2025 is often breathtaking for an old time vegan like me.
As I discussed in a recent post, I’ve been vegan for more than a quarter of a century and the changes I’ve seen around the UK and the planet have been staggering.
And one of the most exciting (and surprising) changes in this time has been the rise of vegan restaurant chains.
Read more below.

I became vegan before the year 2000 and if you had told me then we would have multiple vegan restaurant chains around the UK with 25 years, I wouldn’t have believed it. I would be hopeful, but sceptical.
Here are a few of the current vegan restaurant chains in the UK that you are probably already familiar with:
Mildred’s
Mildreds is a popular London-based vegan restaurant chain known for its globally inspired plant-based dishes served in stylish yet laid-back settings. Since 1988, it has been a go-to spot for both longtime vegans and curious food lovers seeking tasty, meat-free meals.
Locations in: Camden, Covent Garden, Dalston, King’s Cross, Soho, and Victoria
Purezza is the UK’s first fully vegan pizzeria, serving up award-winning, plant-based versions of classic Italian dishes. With several locations, it’s known for its wood-fired sourdough pizzas, house-made vegan cheeses, and commitment to sustainability.
Locations in: Camden, Brighton, and Manchester
Tofu Vegan
Tofu Vegan is a restaurant celebrating the bold flavours of Chinese cuisine through entirely plant-based dishes. Known for its rich Sichuan spices and creative use of tofu and mock meats, it’s a favourite among vegans and non-vegans alike.
Locations in: Islington, Golders Green, Spitalfields, Charlotte Street, and Gloucester Road
Temple of Seitan
Temple of Seitan is a beloved vegan fast food spot known for its indulgent, deep-fried comfort classics. Famous for their seitan-based chicken-style burgers and wings, they serve up satisfying plant-based junk food with a cult following.
Locations in: Camden and Hackney. Delivery only locations in: York, Edinburgh, Cambridge, and Liverpool
That’s just the most obvious list that springs to mind. I’ve not included What The Pitta as they have recently reduced back to two locations, but they are still fabulous. Also, we recently said goodbye to Neat Burger and I think they were up to about 7 UK locations before their demise.
What am I missing?

Hey – well Club Mexicana and Purezza are the first two that come to mind (Purezza has three restaurants so counts?).
Can’t believe I forgot Club Mexicana! If I hadn’t always been a half-arsed blogger I might say I was slipping.
Sorry – you said Purezza…
Neat has closed?!! They’re still on JustEat…
I think they are gone. It was reported a few months back that they are totally gone!
