Geekstraveganza Is Back This Weekend

It’s always heartening to see a community event not only survive but thrive over the years.

One such superstar of the grassroots vegan social scene is Geekstraveganza, the regular tabletop gaming meetup for vegans in London. If you’re someone who enjoys a strategy game with a side of vegan snacks, this is very much your vibe.

Read more below.

Geekstraveganza first popped up in January 2016 at the ever-reliable Karamel in Wood Green and has been quietly building its empire of dice, cards, and kind community ever since. It’s seen venues come and go, weathered the uncertainty of the pandemic, and kept people connected by moving online during lockdowns. Once people could meet in person again, they even took to the parks to keep the gaming alive.

Fast forward to now and Geekstraveganza is a staple on the London vegan calendar. These days, the group hosts events fortnightly, rotating between Karamel and alternating venues like Veg Box Cafe and Love Shack. At its peak just before the pandemic, the group had around 60 attendees in one sitting.

If you’re curious and want to join in, the next event is just around the corner:

Sunday 20 July 2025
1pm until 7pm
Karamel, Wood Green

Everyone is welcome. Whether you’re deep into strategic warfare games or just like the idea of playing a quick round of Uno with some friendly folks, there’s a space for you at the table. The group brings a solid selection of games each time, and you’re also welcome to bring your own. Don’t know the rules? Someone will teach you. Shy? The hosts can introduce you around. You can drop in at any time during the afternoon and slip into a game.

And let’s not forget the venue. Karamel is a gem. The kitchen is fully vegan, and if you’re lucky, you might get to tuck into one of Kath and Roger’s mammoth Sunday roasts. The venue kindly offers space for free, so definitely support them by grabbing a plate (or three) and ordering from the bar.

The venue this weekend has step-free access and a wheelchair-friendly loo. Dog lovers will be happy to know your well-behaved pups are welcome, too.
