South Indian Food in Clapton with Chef Nishma

There’s a very special cooking class coming up in just a few days and I’m telling you now because I don’t want you crying into your spice rack when it sells out and you’ve missed your chance.

The class is called the Plant Based South Indian Masterclass and it’s happening at the fabulous Made In Hackney vegan community kitchen.

Read more below.

The class on Saturday July 19 is led by one of my dear friends, the brilliant Nishma Shah, who many of you might know from her award-winning food business Shambhu’s. If you don’t know Shambhu’s, then you need to catch up. It’s all about ethically-conscious, flavour-packed, plant-based brilliance rooted in Indian and Kenyan culinary heritage.

Nishma is opening the lid on dishes that are rarely seen outside Southern Indian family homes.

You’ll get stuck into learning how to handle spices like a pro, build a sambhar that will change your relationship with lentils forever, whip up the dosa filling of your dreams (hello potato masala), and even discover how to make your own dosa batter from fermented red rice and urad beans. There’s also a baked onion bhaji moment.

And the best part? You’ll be doing all this in a warm, communal space overlooking Clapton Common.

Whether you’re a kitchen newbie or a seasoned chef wanting to up your vegan game, this class is for you. There are only a few spaces left so don’t hang about. You’ll leave with recipe sheets and maybe some news friends.

Oh, and buying a ticket supports the vital food justice work of Made In Hackney.
