Karamel: A North London Vegan Institution That Keeps Giving

Karamel in Wood Green is a warm, welcoming, and fiercely community-minded place that’s been holding it down for the London vegan scene for over a decade.

And there are so many upcoming ways for you to enjoy this legendary space.

Read more below.

Originally the brainchild of dedicated vegan activists, Karamel is now run by Collage Arts, a community charity doing amazing things through creativity and inclusion.

Kath, the endlessly fabulous front-of-house, co-runs the space with her partner Roger, who also happens to cook up absolute vegan magic in the kitchen. Their food? Generous. Delicious. Hugely comforting. You’re not going home hungry, and your wallet won’t be weeping either.

Karamel has seen it all. Remember when London Vegan Drinks got too big for its old venues? Karamel gave it a home. Queer Vegan Disco? Hosted here by yours truly. Post-march afterparties? You guessed it. Karamel has been a beating heart for the LGBTQ+ community, vegans, animal rights activists, and curious locals for years. It’s more than a restaurant or an event space. It’s a home away from home for our community.

The magic at Karamel continues with a packed programme of events that make you feel like you’re part of something bigger. Coming up soon in 2025:

Friday 18 July – The London Vegan Meetup will be helping celebrate 40 years of Collage Arts at Karamel. Music and a dance floor. That’s how you throw a birthday party!

Sunday 20 July – Geekstraveganza is back. This low-key board game hangout is the perfect excuse to make new friends while tucking into Kath and Roger’s legendary Sunday roast. Good people, good food, and more board game action than you can handle.

Saturday 26 July – The London Vegan Mixer is your time to shine. Socialise, sip a cocktail, and belt out your favourite karaoke banger with KaraoChris. This one’s for the extroverts, the introverts, and everyone in between. You’re welcome exactly as you are.

Saturday 2 August – If you like your tofu served with a side of bass, Plants ‘n’ Bass is calling. This late-night vegan club night blends house, jungle, and drum and bass for those who like their compassion with a heavy drop. It’s free to enter and full of good vibes.

Karamel isn’t here to follow trends. It’s been setting the tone for years. It’s a place where you can eat like royalty, dance like no one’s watching, and meet the kind of people who are on your wavelength. A venue with values, flavourful food, and a dog-friendly policy. Honestly, what more could you want?

Big love to the Karamel crew for everything they’ve done and everything still to come. London is lucky to have you.

See you on the dance floor. Or in the queue for that roast.
