Vegan Food Spot In Bethnal Green

If you spend as much time as I do wandering the streets of East London, you might already know about this new-ish spot.

Today I was taking a stroll back from Mandala Cafe when I happened to glance across Roman Road and spotted a place called Somewhere Green. Curious, I popped in to ask if they had anything vegan on the food menu.

Read more below.

Not only do they have something vegan, the entire food menu is 100% plant-based. I like to see it!

Somewhere Green is just a short walk from Bethnal Green Underground station, tucked among the ever-changing landscape of local cafés, bakeries and fruit stalls.

You’ll find a comforting toastie with basil pesto and sun-dried tomatoes, while the BLT Toastie has crispy plant-based bacon and mayo. If you’re after a bagel, the Zalmon Bagel is made with smokey marinated carrot, vegan cream cheese, and a hit of dill.

The Breakfast Muffin features a sausage patty, cheese, and spinach. There’s also frittata with hummus, spinach, and balsamic glaze, plus a red lentil dahl soup.

There are chocolate and berry pancakes featuring maple syrup, peanut butter toast topped with banana and cinnamon, and an acai bowl.

Prices are pretty standard London prices and the staff were friendly to me, even though I wasn’t ordering.

While all the food is vegan, they do still offer dairy milk for drinks. Not my favourite thing to see in a plant-based kitchen, and hopefully something they’ll reconsider in the future. A place doing this much right on the food side would be even more exciting if the drinks followed suit.
