Ten Years of Drooling Over Vegan Food Together

A decade ago, a friend of mine moved to London and quickly realised something was missing. They wanted to go out. They wanted to eat good food. And they didn’t want to do it alone.

So they started a little group called Drooling Vegans.

Read more below.

It was simple at first. A few plant-based pals meeting up to try out vegan spots around the city. But as all good things do, it grew. And now, ten years later, this lovely little idea has turned into a proper institution.

Drooling Vegans has hosted dozens of events over the past decade. That is hundreds of meals shared, hundreds of conversations sparked, hundreds of people who turned up alone and left with new friends.

This is the kind of social magic that happens when you bring people together over a meal. It’s not just about food, though let’s be honest, the food is usually a highlight of any night out. It’s about community. It’s about creating space. It’s about not having to explain what’s on your plate, and just enjoying the company.

In a big city like London, that kind of connection matters. Drooling Vegans helps build what sociologists like to call social capital. In less academic terms, that means people getting to know each other, helping each other out, and forming real bonds that make life a bit richer.

The power of Drooling Vegans hasn’t been contained to just London. Events under the moniker have sprouted up in far-flung destinations such as Barcelona, Brighton, Berlin, Glasgow, Paris, and Tokyo!

These social events while great for the community, also give a boost to small vegan businesses. When Drooling Vegans show up to a café or restaurant, they show up with full hearts and empty stomachs. They support the businesses that support our values, and that’s something to celebrate too.

If you’re curious, or if you’re new to London and wondering how to meet like-minded people, I can’t recommend the Drooling Vegans WhatsApp group enough. Here’s the link to join: Join Drooling Vegans on WhatsApp

And to mark ten delicious years, Drooling Vegans is throwing a party.

On Monday 9 June, 2025, Drooling Vegans is teaming up with vegan food security charity Made In Hackney for a special anniversary meal. This one’s going to be a real treat. Chef Sharon Gardner is cooking up a Caribbean feast inside the Made In Hackney community kitchen and you are invited.

Tickets are just £25, and all profits go directly to supporting Made In Hackney’s vital work fighting food insecurity and making good food accessible to all.

Whether you’re a long-time Drooling Vegan regular or someone who’s been meaning to go to a Made In Hackney event for ages but hasn’t quite made it, this is the perfect event to join. Come celebrate a decade of food, friendship, and fabulousness.

Here’s to the next ten years of eating well and eating together.
