London comfort food spot closes

I have been out of the UK for six months and during that time many new vegan opportunities have arisen. I have a list of things I need to try that opened while I was in Mexico.

Near the top of that list was Top Dog, the US-style hot dog diner in Soho with an amazing separate vegan menu.

Josh first wrote about it here.

So, I rocked up today only to find the fast food joint closed! Peering through the windows, it looks as though it was shut down in a hurry as there were still boxes of food and kitchen equipment inside.

Josh reached out to the company today and got the following response:

Sad times. I didn’t get to try it!

Did you make it to Top Dog during its short lifetime? What did you think?

  1. I thought the food was awful and overpriced and saw some similar opinions so not surprised it’s shut down.

  2. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! I was desperate to go there!!!! I was planning on taking my nephew when he comes down to London next weekend! Can anyone recommend an alternative??? Thanks for letting us know though!

  3. Dang. Their vegan dog was the bomb and the chips were good. And overall a fun well executed designed interior and top service! But this is a typical story for any vegan or non-vegan eatery in London. Rents are sky high and footfall (or people’s willingness to spend £10 for lunch) is diminishing. In any case I hope Top Dog find a pop up and make all the range vegan.

  4. That’s a shame. I only went once but really liked it. They didn’t have one of the sides we ordered but gave us another for free. Food was great, service quick and friendly. Prices fairly standard for central London

  5. I really enjoyed it although it was a bit of an oil overload when you have one of everything vegan on the menu – which obviously you have to do! I’m sad they’ve closed down, it was good. The fried pickles were especially amazing, what a shame I won’t get to have them again.

(For even better bbq cauliflower than Top Dog had try Terre a Terre if you’re in Brighton.)
