Something familiar is returning, but with a fresh twist and a new home.

If you have spent any time in Brighton over the years, chances are you’ve heard the name Happy Maki. Maybe you queued for one of their generous sushi wraps, or maybe you discovered them at a local festival, serving up vegan delicousness one roll at a time.
However you first discovered them, Happy Maki definitely became part of the Brighton plant-based story.
Now, after a short break and a BIG change behind the scenes, they’re back. The legendary vegan sushi spot is reopening at 49 Gardner Street from 13 November 2025, this time under the care of the team at Purezza.
Yes, that Purezza. The same pizza pioneers who helped shape modern vegan dining in the UK are now keeping the Happy Maki spirit alive and rolling.
The new location sits right in the heart of Brighton’s North Laine neighbourhood. And to celebrate the reopening, they’re giving away 49 free sushi rolls on launch day (midday until 8pm). All you have to do is walk in and say the phrase “Maki me happy.” The giveaway is first come, first served, so plan accordingly.
Happy Maki’s new chapter brings back the favourites people loved, including the Fully Loaded and Popcorn Cauli, alongside some brand new creations like the Philadelphia roll.
Tim Barclay from Purezza says they’re proud to carry on the legacy of a business that’s been serving Brighton for more than eight years. Just like Purezza, Happy Maki is on a mission to make plant-based food accessible, sustainable, and enjoyable.
So there you have it. Happy Maki is home again, ready to feed Brighton’s vegan crowd and anyone else who fancies a delicious meal.
