Tucked away down a few steps on Turner Street, Hinterland is an alcohol-free bar, vegan pop-up kitchen, and community meeting space.
During my visit I was struck by how warm, welcoming, and cosy the venue is. I hadn’t booked in advance (which is recommended) but the kind servers managed to squeeze two of us in… and I’m so grateful they did!
The drink menu is extensive and creative. Cider, wine, cocktails, beer, hot chocolates, coffee, tea, and kombucha. Every single drop behind the bar is without alcohol making it the perfect spot for anyone looking to avoid booze, however I would point out that Hinterland is for everyone. Non-drinkers and drinkers will love the line up.
The pop-up kitchen is hosted by Wholesome Junkies and if you’ve had the pleasure of dining with them, you’ll know they are a few steps ahead of what is being served around the country in a lot vegan joints.
I adored the whipped tofu with roasted veg, the crunchy mushroom “chicken”, and the juicy corn ribs.

The food menu offers up burgers, loaded fries, tots, and even ramen however I opted for these few small plates and I was more than happy with my choice. The flavours were spectacular and the portions were satisfying.
Hinterland is a beautifully-decorated space and is home to a diverse line-up of interesting events including poetry readings, philosophical discussions, and even a death cafe.

If you are anywhere near Manchester and want an enjoyable, relaxing, and delicious night out I strongly recommend Hinterland.
I didn’t have enough time on this trip but the kitchen also serves up a weekend brunch that looks impressive. If I lived here, it would definitely be a regular hangout for me.
