A Legend In Glasgow

Mono in Glasgow has always been a special place for me.

It’s been far too long since I set foot in that glorious space. Years, in fact. Pre-COVID. But still, I think about it often. I miss it. Mono isn’t just a café bar or a music venue. It’s a cornerstone. A cultural institution. A big-hearted, fried vegan fish-slinging legend in the middle of Glasgow.

Tucked away in the Merchant City since 2002, Mono has built a reputation that any venue would envy.

Not only has it been a haven for vegan comfort food long before oat milk was fashionable, it’s been a champion of alternative music and grassroots culture since the start. The kind of place where you could eat a towering burger, sip on something crisp and hoppy, and then be blown away by live music.

This venue means a lot to me personally. I had the joy of hosting Glasgow Vegan Beer Fest at Mono two years in a row and that alone makes it hallowed ground in my book. Those events were some of the most beautiful, chaotic, and unforgettable days.

Mono has always stood for more than just good food and good music. It’s consistently used its platform to support causes that matter, hosting fundraisers and solidarity events with warmth and conviction. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t just talk about community, it lives it.

And the food. Let’s not pretend it’s anything less than spectacular. Mono does vegan comfort food in a way that makes you wonder why anyone still bothers with cruelty. Massive portions. Proper flavour. They are notorious for their pizza crunch, which is battered and deep fried pizza by the slice!

If you’re in or near Glasgow and haven’t visited Mono recently, go. If you’ve never been, change that. Support this place that has given so much to so many. Mono is a beacon for what’s possible when ethics, creativity and community meet under one roof. It deserves our love, our custom and our gratitude.

Legendary doesn’t even begin to cover it.
