Maoz London closed?
This is terrible news.
A reader named Chris posted on my Facebook page yesterday to ask if I knew anything about Maoz on Old Compton Street being closed. He said it was shut with no sign of it being temporary and the HappyCow listings site has it marked as closed.
I am devastated.
I can’t remember the number of times I’ve stumbled into the store for a bag of hot chips after a few too many pints at a nearby gay bar.
It really was one of the best places for vegans to eat in Central London.
I have emailed the company to see if they have any news regarding the closure. If you have any further information, please let me know.
Noooo – come back Maoz.
For ages I wouldn’t go there. Cross contamination was a huge problem. Once the non vegan salad spilled into the others and I asked if they could at least take out what fell in. They instead topped up the vegan stuff to covered over what spilled in. The manager said “we don’t cater for vegans” and that was that.
Fwiw I spoke to the manager there on numerous occasions in the past. A while ago they bought out of the international Maoz franchise and had dropped the “vegetarian” part of their name. He also told me they were considering selling meat products as the rents were too high. Of course, it’s a shame to see them go but at least there does seem to be plenty of falafel stores opening around London these days.
A bit late to the party here but I only found out about this last week, I avoid London as it’s the worst capital city in Europe but I had to visit for a few days so was devastated to find out that this place was closed. Sad times.
