Bottled it

The fab people of Vintage Roots sent me a bottle of vegan wine to review. Here is my review: Kip and I guzzled it. It was nice. Order vegan wine from Vintage Roots.

As you can see, I have little expertise with wine parlance so I’ve asked the infinitely more qualified Kip of Messy Vegetarian Cook to share her reflections. You can like Kip on Facebook and follow her on Twitter.

What’s the 411, Kip?

When Sean asked if I’d be interested in sampling a bottle of wine from Vintage Roots, a wine-sourcing company with an impressive portfolio of vegan friendly bottles, I was more than happy to oblige.

Grown at its organic vineyard in central Italy’s Marche region near the Adriatic coast, Barone Pizzini has crafted gold with its 2012 Pievalta Verdicchio Superiore.

Eclipsed by more well known white wines like Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio, Verdicchio is the overshadowed champion of Italian whites. The style of this wine, clean and crisp, suits anyone with an inclination toward dry and citrusy Sauvignon blancs. It’s also a bottle I’d happily tote along to any party or social gathering, whether to gift to a host or to drink by myself in the corner (because I’d really rather not share). In other words, it’s a solid all rounder, or at least it is for me.

I drank the wine sans a meal, but I think it would pair suitably with sushi or a light pasta dish with smoked tofu. Be that as it may, my preference for a fresh wine like this Verdicchio is still to drink it on its own, and that is how I will likely continue to enjoy any future consumption too.

Lovely drop

Lovely drop

The Verdicchio grape variety deserves more recognition, but the fact that it’s little talked about may be why it’s still accessible by the average wallet. If you’re seeking a fresh white with great value, the Pievalta Verdicchio Superiore is worth your consideration.

With something for all tastes, it’s well worth perusing  the Vintage Roots catalogue for an impressive selection of other vegan wines as well. And just in case you want my opinion on what else you should try, some of my other Vintage Roots favourites are the Coyam Emiliana and Adobe Sauvignon Blanc (actually pretty much all of the Emiliana Orgánico wines are worth a try). I also enjoyed the Horsmonden Dry White and am looking forward to next year’s shipment.
