Beer makes you feel the way you ought to feel without beer
I’m feeling romantic. Come with me as I spirit you back to 2005, the year I first met one of the true loves of my life. People often say you can’t help who you fall in love with and in that vein, dear FGV readers, I would like to introduce you to Original Pale Ale by Coopers Brewery.
I had been hearing about the Coopers Brewery for a while but it was only during a trip to Adelaide, South Australia for a Green Day concert that I decided to take the plunge and try this Australian favourite. Instantly, I was smitten. The Pale Ale was everything I love in a beer… a crisp, light quality with distinctive flavours served ice cold. Lovely.
The entire range of beers produced by this company is vegan and includes the aforementioned Pale Ale, Sparkling Ale, Best Extra Stout and many more. The Pale Ale in the gorgeous green label has been one of my favourite drinks ever since Billie Joe Armstrong declared lyrical war on George W. Bush.
But with all this talk of South Australia, you must be wondering how I get my fix now that my chubby, queer body is firmly planted in the UK. As per usual, it’s Whole Foods Market on Kensington High Street to the rescue. Their delightful import beer case houses my favourite Coopers flavour as well as the Sparkling Ale.
Keep an eye out for this irresistible beverage. I have also purchased it during a vacation to Philadelphia (The Foodery at Poplar & 2nd in Northern Liberties for you Philly locals) and it does seem to make its way to some interesting parts of the world.
If it shows up in your town, please let me know. I’ll be around to pick up a six pack ASAP.

Other sightings include: Selfridges Oxford St (only sparkling) and obviously The Australia Shop in Covent Garden. But thanks for the Whole Foods tip!! I’ll try the Camden branch!
I honestly didn’t know there was an Australian shop… hahahaha. I will check it out.
