A plant-based feast
There is a charming eatery tucked away in West Yorkshire that is a firm favourite of the FGV. Dandelion & Burdock is a completely vegan restaurant that serves up some of the finest cruelty-free food anywhere in the world.
I recently returned to the lovely town of Sowerby Bridge with a large group of friends for weekend brunch and the food we consumed was intoxicating (read about my previous D&B visit here). Nestled beside a window overlooking the picturesque river, my friends and I ordered enough delicacies to sink a barge.
My choice was the linguini bolognese. The soy mince dish was flavoured with a tomato and basil bolognese sauce. It was rich and flavorful.
The dish was topped with Parmazano (the incredible Parmesan substitute) and pine nuts.
The meal was a huge portion and of a high standard. If this is on the menu during my next visit, I would struggle to resist it.
Another masterpiece that made its way to our table was the jambalaya. It was an all-round, sensational meal…
Succulent soy chicken pieces, vegan sausage chunks and slices of okra were smothered in a creole sauce flavoured with mushroom, red onion, peppers and tomato.
All of this was served with a side of rice checkered with sweet corn.
Next up was the stuffed jumbo pasta shells.
The wheat pasta was filled with a vegan cream cheese mixture featuring basil, olives, spring onion and sun dried tomato. Josh described these shells as delectable and packed with flavour.
The plate was dressed with a mixed baby leaf salad that was drizzled with a balsamic syrup and extra virgin olive oil.
This blog post is simultaneously making me hungry and wearing me out. Let’s keep moving.
Mango slaw was served fresh and piled high.
The mouthwatering plate was presented in a burst of colour made up of mango, ginger, chilli, lime, cilantro, Brazil nuts, carrot, red onion and red cabbage.
That is a mammoth and healthy salad, right? Another salad made it over to us. The Jersey potato salad housed Jersey royal potatoes, red onion, cucumber, avocado, tomato, mixed baby leaves, truffle oil and balsamic syrup.
Josh enjoyed the sausage and mushroom wrap with a serving of fries while Stuart didn’t sing too many praises about his potato tofu hash. He felt it was undersized for a main meal and I will admit it was dwarfed by even some of the small plates.
Have we enjoyed enough of the savouries? Let’s move on to desserts and sweets.
I adored my rhubarb fool. Prior to spotting this on the menu, I had no idea what a fool was… well not the food variety. It was creamy, sweet and delicious.
Josh raved about his Caribbean bunt cake served with vanilla ice cream drizzled with chocolate sauce. Someone else consumed the blueberry cake in vanilla custard. These desserts at Dandelion & Burdock are world class.
We have made it to the end of a monster vegan post. Dandelion & Burdock is a must-visit location for vegan and non-vegans who love quality food. I can’t recommend this eatery highly enough. The food is stunning, the location is beautiful and the staff are beyond friendly.
Go now.
